Try starting up with: dx -uionly & dx -execonly & After the exec process appears in ps, open the UI, Connection>Start Server> then click Options and choose Connect to Already Running Server. That may avoid the handshaking timeout you are seeing. In general, use dx -edit netname.net to avoid the StartupUI thingie if you are just going to run a particular net anyway.
