I have been trying to gather some observations about the behaviour of Data
Prompter. I notice that the File Selector has different behaviour from that
in Visual Program Editor.

First, my environment (in Windows 98) has:

DXROOT=E:\OpenDX
DXDATA=E:\OpenDX\SAMPLES\DATA
ROOT=E:\OpenDX
HOME=E:/OpenDX

When I start Data Prompter (dx -prompter) and click on the ellipsis button,
I see two paths (all cases preserved):

E:\OpenDX/samples/data
E:\OpenDX

The first path combines Unix and DOS / usages. Note that it is not the same
as DXDATA. I assume that this path is created in DX. And why two paths?

If I select the first path, the File Selector window is opened. The Filter
field at the top is displaying

E:\OpenDX/samples/data/*

while the Selection field at the bottom has

E:\

The Directories list shows all the directories under E:\, while the Files
list shows all the files in E:\OpenDX\samples\data. It is actually not
possible to use the File Selector to select a data file. If you negotiate
through the directory tree until the Selection field shows

E:\OpenDX\samples\data

the Filter field is now showing

E:\OpenDX\samples\OpenDX/samples/data/*

and not surprisingly the Files list is empty. This is different from the way
the File Selector in Visual Program Editor works. In that case, when
File>Open is selected, opening the File Selector, the Filter field always
shows whatever is in the Selection field with *.net appended.

I trust this will help someone who is familiar with Data Prompter determine
what the problem is. No doubt it is something very simple to do with the
old /\ confusion.
