This is not right. The availability depends on the graphics system.
Higher end alpha workstations (eg powerstorm graphics-cards) do support
OpenGL. I compiled OpenDX a while ago on an XP-1000. Config.cache says
eg:

ac_cv_header_GL_gl_h=${ac_cv_header_GL_gl_h='yes'}
ac_cv_header_GL_glx_h=${ac_cv_header_GL_glx_h='yes'}

As DX cannot import our unstructured mixed element meshes I have not
used it (just compiled, installed and looked at the tuorials/examples).

Good luck compiling (if I recall correctly than you might have some
hassle to deal with, but it can be done).

Regards
Henk
