OpenDX 4.1.3/Cygwin
Windows 98

I have some questions concerning implementation. My problems appear to
be similar to those described recently by Cameron Huddleston-Holmes.

I have added the statement
PATH=C:\cygwin\usr\X11r6\bin;C:\cygwin\usr\local\bin to cygwin.bat,
opened a Cygwin bash shell under DOS, and set a symbolic link

ln -s tcsh.exe csh.exe

After typing

dx

at the dollar prompt, the OpenDX welcome logo and the Data Explorer
appear in one of the Cygwin windows

Use of the dx command with several of the switches (e.g., dx -menubar,
dx -version) at the bash prompt has so far failed. On the other hand,
the dx -help command works.)

>From within OpenDX, a few of the commands seem to work. For example,

- Quit closes down the program
- Import Data opens the appropriate dialog box, and can find files
- Tutorial opens the tutorial

Any attempt actually to import data or edit programs, however, fails

A typical failure follows:

go to Import Data
select Image file
select Tiff
enter in the appropriate box the file name – e.g.,

 usr/local/dx/samples/data/cylinder.tiff

select "visualize data"

This process returns in the Cygwin window the error message

 Could not connect to dxexec

It also returns in the DOS/Bash window the result

timeout waiting for response from DX Internal error detected at
"MacroDefinition.C":631.
No files needed to be saved. 0 [sig] dxui 878811
open_stackdumpfile: Dumping stack trace to DXUI.EXE.stackdump

My attempts to run Samples and to run Run Visual Programs have evoked
the same response.

Suggestions are welcome. Many thanks in advance.
