Just installed OpenDX from the Mandrake cooker RPM.

The installations went pretty smoothly (only one dependency to locate & install first)

dx starts OK by typing "dx"

I have some netCDF data (used with GMT) I want to use OpenDX to use as the background for some visualisations (midwater fish distributions over time, with temperature data overlaid on the terrain model.

I run "Import DATA..."
Then select the grd file from the data prompter dialogue.
The test import button becomes available, & pressing it brings up the dat explorer dialog & the message window.

The message window has the following message:

Memory cache will use 438 MB (26 for small items, 412 for large)
port = 1900
Error during initialisation

ExHostToFQDN failed
server: accepted connection from client
Begin execution
0: ERROR: gethostbyname returned error

Running a pretty standard Mandrake 8.1 Linux installation, Athlon 1.4Ghx cpu & 512Mb memory. I have a Mandrake 7.2 box as the DHCP server & there are no other problems I've noticed. It appears to maybe be a network problem, but the usual browsers, ftp, printers all work fine.

Any help appreciated.
