This could be a dns problem with your own machine. You may wish to make sure everything is defined well for your local machine. Try doing a hostname and then ping the machine name returned by it. If that all works, then I'd say there is a problem with the compilation done by the person for the mandrake dist.

Running a pretty standard Mandrake 8.1 Linux installation, Athlon 1.4Ghx cpu & 512Mb memory. I have a Mandrake 7.2 box as the DHCP server & there are no other problems I've noticed. It appears to maybe be a network problem, but the usual browsers, ftp, printers all work fine.

Any help appreciated.
