Thanks for the prompt response.
The problem was that I installed a lean version
of the debian linux distribution and csh was missing! Hence the message

was the output of the "/bin/csh" not found! by the scripts. I've got
dx working now! boy what an improvement on graphics quality and speed when
compared to a previous toshiba RH7.1 laptop I was using. I wish I knew how to
create a .deb file so others could download the binary version and get
it installed with dpkg.
