I'm pretty sure that Export will do this appropriately. The documentation may reflect something very old. Why don't you try it to verify it. You should be able to export the data at each connection, the positions, the connections, etc. The format would either be dx (try format="dx ieee 2", for a header as .dx and data in .bin) or arrays in ASCII.
