I did some further experimentation and found that the crashing of OpenDx
(or freezing of the XP OS) likely owes to the firewall (I have Norton
Internet
Security 2002). When I disable the Norton program, OpenDx executes the
tutorial
examples without apparent problems, although it repeatedly issues the
same two
XtWarnings listed in my earlier e-mail (see bleow). I know I've seen
postings
concerning firewalls, so I'll look there to see if I can get Norton and
OpendDx
to "play nice."

The CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 1800. RAM is 1GB. I am using X-Win 32
v. 5.2.1 as my X server.

Which X-Server are you running? This sounds like an X server problem.
David
I'm using the updated executable given to me by David Thompson,
and this has resolved my original problems with the missing keysyms.
I'm now encountering a different error. I start Data Explorer, click on
"Edit Visual Programs...", select example1.net from the "Net File
Selection" window, at which point I get the messages:
XtWarning: Locale not supported for XmbTextListToTextProperty
XtWarning: Cannot convert XmString to compound test
Data Explorer has experienced an internal error
and the program aborts. Has anyone encountered this error before
(and have any
suggestions for correcting it)?
Thanks,
