Quite a while ago, I experimented with it, and to learn how it works, wrote a python package to generate native DX files with geometric shapes in them. If you happen to read python, you may want to mess with the attached code, which will generate a fancy shape which can be imported into DX. By going over the code, oyu can then figure out what it takes to do it.

Warning: the file below may have either Macintosh (cr) or Unix (lf) line endings. I didn't check which before I attached it. You will need to feed it to an editor to get your favorite line endings.

Things like robotic arm motion, relative motion of two space craft,etc. I did come across a brief discussion of importing polygon models in the mail archives, but nothing to point me in the right direction.
