Dear All

Like many people on the list I have experienced the VPE bringing down
OpenDX and like everyone else I am employing the DX_SOCKET_BUFSIZE fix.

However, I had to reinstall win2K on my laptop the other day and where
OpenDX was working before the reinstall it wasn't afterwards. Since all
drivers etc where the same between the old and new installation I
reasoned it had to be a setting issue so I did a systematic search of
all settings (Exceed 8/Xfree and NVIDIA drivers).

I eventually found that setting the "openGL/vertical sync" to be "on by
default" was necessary. Doing only this results in OpenDX running fine.

I do not know what options other drivers/platforms have but if you are
suffering the VPE crashing, I recommend hunting for a similar setting
and seeing if that solves the problem.

Do our resident guru's know why this is a crucial setting?

Hope that helps someone,

Peter
