I think that connect works in 2-D.  Given a set of points in 3D, the function of the normal input is to specify a plane to project the points into so it can work in 2D, then project back.  If you have points in space with orientation and you can't determine a projection plane (or there isn't one; for example points on a closed surface - like a sphere) Connect won't work for you.  You'll need to factor in extra knowlege.  Line map the points on the sphere to lat-long, Connect the surface there, and then map the points back to 3D (leaving you with a gap where the boundaries don't meet).  So I guess the short answer is no.
