I tried "dx -memory 256", where 256 MB is 1/2 my total RAM. No good: it still limits me to an arean 24 MB and goes bad with large data files or when trying to save large, high-definition images.

I'm using the most recent cygwin release.

Not sure if your first question was answered. Did you try dx -memory n,
which n is MB? Ordinarily, the default takes 7/8 of physical memory.

I've not seen the second problem. What version of DX and platform are you
using?
