Dear All,

We plan to apply for a research proposal, which focuses on importing and
exporting archetype compliant EN13606 ehr extracts, originating from medical
data that has been stored previously in different proprietary format of the
communicating HISs. We plan to test our solution by developing an Archetype
representation of a hospital discharge letter that should consider existing
specifications for this document type and also integrate our corresponding
national requirements for a discharge letter. As the communication framework we
would choose IHE XDS, combining it with Archetypes.

May I ask you about your opinion of the ?scientifical significance? of the
above sketched idea of the proposal:

- Do you know any published implementations of EN 13606 other then these
mentioned below?

[Maldonado Segura JA. Historia Clinica Electronica Federada Basada en la Norma
Europea CEN/TC251 EN13606: PhD Thesis, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia;
2005.]
[Munoz A et al. Proof-of-Concept Design and Development of an EN13606-based
Electronic Healthcare Record Service. J Am Med Inform Assoc; 2007; 14(1): pp.
118-129.]

- Do you know of any previous work of practically applying Archetypes for
structured health data communication, maybe also based on XDS? Is the
examination of how to efficiently apply the theoretical archetype concept in a
practical clinical scenario scientifically valuable in your opinion?

- Is a national archetype representation of a hospital discharge letter
scientifically valuable in your opinion? Is it scientifically relevant to test
Archetypes in real-world problems? Has this been done already and is it
published somewhere?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Christoph Rinner
