I have encountered the same problem, but with mysql, version 4.0.2-alpha-max-debug (openejb-0.8.2, Windows 2000, j2sdk1.4.0_01). The suggested change did not change the results for me either.
Regarding the CMP example, thank you to everyone (mostly Jacek it seems) for providing this! Even though the stack traces are unsightly, the example obviously worked, which is a huge breakthrough for me and openejb.
