There is a already a linter that is integrated into the established email workflow and has a useful set of rules specifically for the core layers, but sadly it fell into disrepair due to a lack of maintainer: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/patchtest How about you step up as a maintainer and/or collaborate with Paul Barker, and get it fixed?
