For what it is worth, we stopped using meta-gplv2 earlier this year. What made
it possible was that we stopped defining INCOMPATIBLE_LICENSE globally, and
instead only define it for the image recipes. We also have never allowed bash
in our images, which otherwise seems to be a blocker for many wanting to avoid
GPL-3.0. In the end, we had to copy two recipes from meta-gplv2 (gnupg and
dosfstools) to one of our own layers, but that at least indicates that we are
now responsible for maintaining them ourselves.
