Okay, finally I managed to get to the bottom of it, I have sent some
patches to fix in master. But I want to let the patches soak a bit in
master before they would get to any other branches. Until then I have
sent the cherry-pick I mentioned. I think this upgrade (along with the
cherry-pick) could go for another try in Scarthgap when you get to that
point.
