You can count me in, I'll be happy to take part in a shared generic module.
There was a "city" module in v5.0/6.0 extras, which I had optimized a
goog bit and made more generic. Unfortunately our changes were
ruthlessly overwritten and the merge proposal [1] I made remained
unreviewed, and I didn't care to enter an edit war.
