HI All

No body asking to release an unstable version.
But there is a plan and it should be clearly communicated with partners and
community.
In open days its declared 7th of July will release, but while seeing the
development we feel only 7th they have started real work for V8 and its
uncertain.
Trusting odoo we have committed to our customers and prospect to provide V8.

Thanks & Regards

I agree with the point of having "stable and tested" release but fact is that
too much wait will kill the opportunities as well.

Apart from this, community and other integrators are also investing based on
release, delay in release will also increase the investment as they'll be also
not able to release their code and work based on new version.

Can't we have at least some official word from odoo about release plan and
things that will be available, it's fine not to have all things in the release
as things can be added with later release.

A better approach would be something like this ( Libreoffice office release
plan) : https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan
Again, My 2 cents for stability but 1 for releasing On time as well.

Honestly.

For me it can be december the "official voice". It is not the real issue.

We have the master and rc code available since 1 year ago.

What we REALLY need is deeper testing with well documented bugs an github...
guve as much feedback as you can... it will help more than complain about some
date.

I dont like either the fact off offer dates you wilm not be able to comply with
but shit happen.... lets code, lets test and lets hack....

The "unique" erp system in the world with this kind a R& d investment that put
100% of its R & D freely available allowing this kind of criticism is Odoo....
we should considere that in our evaluation.

Sorry for be too hard but even we have internally 20% of odoo team, 50% of them
number of modules and 1% of databases numbers and we are not even sleeping well
to have everithing on time thats a fact.....

I prefer "stable and tested" without fixed date than "unstable" for hurry the
release.

This kind of complains will just push to remove more unfinished features
because a "release" lets them work and please just test, hack and share code,
thats the way to.work.

Take a problem for you solve it and make a pr thats not __only__ odoo sa
responsability dudes.

Regards.

Agree with Luis

Odoo officials will have to respond ASAP.
Delay in release of V8 have many negative impact in market.

I feel that Odoo is between a rock and and a hard place, now.
They have unstable code and a pressing need to release something they have
already promised.
Yes, the defending side will argue -and rightly so- that stable software is a
must.
But the "evil" forces of the market will be adamant: If you can not deliver, do
not promise.
Odoo is a real force to contend with in the SMB market and the competition will
use this as another proof of lack or reliability. Farfetched? Of course. But
they still will.

In my opinion the worst is the current official silence which is the source of
anxiety and rumours.
"August" is far too vague and comes from a functional consultant. Can we take
this as the official Odoo voice?

There is a big community our there waiting for new version.
It probably should have never been announced or at least not with such an
aggressive estimated date of delivery.
But it was.
And now, for the sake of damage control, I think that Odoo should inform the
market and the community in a realistic way.
IMHO

PS: The Saas-x issue is just a numbering scheme gone awry. Let's not even waste
energy in that. If anyone is running the beta version of V8, it says Version 9
alpha 01 in the "About Odoo" screen. Again, optimistic numbering?

Hello,

The next version will not be the SaaS 4 but the SaaS 5 and will be release in
August but we haven't any precise date yet.

Best regards,

Jean-François Dufour

According to Antony, back in January he wrote:

sass-<n> are snapshots of trunk we deploy on the the saas, we are now at
saas-3, the v8 release will based on a saas-n branch, prboably saas-4 or
saas-5. The release process of v8 will simply be a bzr push of saas-n to 8.0.
We will push a branch used in production on saas for at least one month. So it
will really be stable from the first day of release (unlike previous releases
which had a few month of stabilisation even after the release).

And the idea S.A. sold us was that when v8 was labeled, it would come from a
tested saas-n branch, and clearly this is not the case... SaaS customers are
still on saas-3 !!

I know S.A. is busy with v8, but these issues are also important...

-Mario

Since you are officially a customer now, why not send in a support ticket. I

Hi Antony,

A friend asked me to create an instance in free odoo SaaS.
Everything installed fine, but at the end I noticed it was created using
saas-3...

Aren't SaaS users supossedly on Saas-5 by now ?
