I would like to propose the establishment of an "informal" formal
organization, suggested name: the Open Source Health Alliance, it's
purpose(s) would be to:

* Link and identify all the individuals and organizations that are truely
committed to
the Open Source business model in healthcare. Commitment would be defined by
a simple set of business rules that are essential to working in the OSS
paradigm and that we all agree to live by eg.

*Act as a critical mass of "resources" that will enhance the crediblity of
what we are doing. I'm impressed with the caliber of people that are
participating, collectively we are a formidable force. This "Alliance" will
help attract other clusters of interested groups, eg. Canadian Institute of
Health Inforamatics and spread the message of OSS.

*It can also identify groups and individuals that could be available for
bids on real projects. For example, there is a very strategic Request for
Proposals for a clinical management system, aggregate data base and secure
network to support HIV treatment and research that has just come out here in
Ontario. It is an ideal project for OSS for dozens of reasons. The
Association could be used to establish virtual teams to bid on such
projects.

These are some of my initial thoughts on this. I feel it would be wise to
act quickly, keep it as simple as possible and ensure that whatever we
create can evolve but retains the characteristics which attract us to this
paradigm in this industry.

Any suggestions etc. as to the name of it, business rules or code of conduct
etc. would be great! Who would be interested in being part of this? Does it
make sense....?

Cheers,

Joseph
