Just so that my ignorance does not remain plateau'ed, as I look at XML
my impression is that XML tags and SQL field names are very similar,
which is to say that with a little attention to detail one could have a
one-for-one match-up between the tags and the fields.  I take it that
I've got ahold of the wrong end of the stick here (which wouldn't be the
first time).
