And many hospitals are using mumps already (in my case both Compucare
and CSM sit on mumps.)
What I am doing is to continue writing perl scripts with DBI/CGI and to
start a new project with a veteran M programmer (very dedicated to OSS)
using Steve Zeck's Monty perl module. I imagine it won't be too long before
I am querying FreeM from a web interface. OSS top to bottom.
The game plan is to offer a OSS alternative to hospital systems already
invested in Mumps...like my own. ;-)
Given the fact that this hospital system chose Mumps only recently I am
not sure how Mumps is limiting itself. I know that InterSystems is not
helping much but (thanks to Jim Self) I am now using Mumps V1 and FreeM
on BSD and Linux. I think outreach is the issue. I plan to link FreeM
to my page and to write to Greg Hankins at LDP. Maybe contact Linux
Journal where I once knew their DBA. An article in LJ can have a significant
impact.

Jim - I prefer FreeM to other implementations, as does my more experienced
M guy. I like the fact that the routines end up in ../mlib rather than the
monolithic db file. This is superior to Mumps V1 *and* Cache(y).
If Steve Z could get an FBSD M package together I wonder if Jordan Hubbard
would stick it in the ports collection? Obviously, I am eager to assist
in any way I might!
