I don't want to defend Mozilla, but this statement is not strictly true.  Mozilla
defines UI's using XUL and executes using javascript... I 
suspect that having many layers of indirection here is more 
the problem than what language it is written in.

   Anyway, my old assembler language code is still faster 
than anything I've seen in the last 15 years from all  those 
new fangled things like C++ and Fortan, not to mention 
visual basic and java :)
