The medbiquitous consortium (http://www.medbiq.com) aims at developing
communities online in the health sector. They have apparently started the
initiative by rallying healthcare professional associations
(http://www.medbiq.org/cmembers.html) (being themselves healthcare
professionals) in order to make coherent requests to service companies to
provide them with the technology they need under an Open Source license.
Although membership to the consortium is needed to discuss evolution to
their work, the technology will be provided without any discrimation ("true
OS" if that makes sense :-)). More in their FAQ
(http://www.medbiq.org/faq.html)

Their main goal seems to be that of continued medical education (through
XML, Java,... from the technology side) and it can be seen at
http://www.medbiq.org/wgcontent.html. Although they do not have any industry
member (nor is it wanted), they have "Visiting Architects": Grady Booch,
Rational Software, UML Architect, Joel Farrell, IBM, Technical Steering
Committee Chair, Todd Freter, Sun Microsystems, XML Architect, Scott
Hinkelman, IBM, Web Services Architect.

They currently look into Europe to create a critical mass. This would also
offer the opportunity to have solutions that are flexible and multicultural
:-).

Do you have any idea or comment on the consortium or their approach?

Thank you,
Sincerely,

-Yves
