SNOMED of one version or another has been used in Pathology depts for ages. I doubt this is yet the merged SNOMED and Read sets. No use of the merged sets for what they are expected to be good for has yet been visible to me. Development of IT in the NHS is currently stalled, with a steady stream of quite sensible projects that had been nearing completion and had been desired in use since 1992 - 99 being cancelled or abandoned in case they are not in accordance with the (also invisible except to commercial potential bidders) specification for the integrated clinical record system, or the to be announced national IT plan for health, or because their champions are not members of the loose alliances an coalitions who have floated to the top of the current swamp. But out of this we are assured will come new software to assist us in performing and administering the radically different new GP contract by October. Personally, I just carry on writing wahtever I need which is within my powers, and I expect so does anyone else who actually has control of their IT support. -- From the Linux desktops of Dr Adrian Midgley http://www.defoam.net/
