Ah, the s vs. z curse. My last name frequently and spontaneously undergoes the dreaded s to z change even by places I've been employed at for more than 5 years. This is compounded by a fairly random distribution of Valdes's and Valdez's in the population. Openhealth content: this is the kind of fun stuff EMR's also have to deal with.
Another favorite is the pronunciation of ValdEEs (incorrect) vs. Valdés (correct) prompted by an unusual pronunciation by inhabitants of Valdez Alaska, the Exxon ValdEEz accident and Juan Valdez coffee commercials. Oh well. If you've ever seen the comedy movie classic Office Space and the plight of an office worker, Michael Bolton, (Uh any relation? No.) who shares the name of the singer.
