RE: FW: [Openhpi-devel] Problem in getting OpenHPI client utilities to
connect to OpenHPI on an IPMI 2.0 platform
Renier,
I was able to resolve this issue by looking at the source code of the
openHPI client.... thanks to open source !!
host = getenv("OPENHPI_DAEMON_HOST");
if (host == NULL) {
host = "localhost";
}
The problem was a configuration issue.
Apparently, the OpenHPI client utilities require the env variable
OPENHPI_DAEMON_HOST to be set.
If that env var is not set then it tries to use "localhost" but localhost
was not resolving to anything on this Linux server.
So the OpenHPI client is now able to access the OpenHPI server using the
ipmidirect plugin.

Renier,
Same thing....;-(
-bash-3.00$ ./hpi_shell
CreateConnx: Could not open client socket
Possibly, the OpenHPI daemon has not been started.
saHpiSessionOpen: Could not create client connection
saHpiSessionOpen error NO_RESPONSE
I thought of trying to use a hpi client which is installed on the IPMI 1.5
machine (and which is able to access the local openHpi server) to access
the OpenHPI server running on the IPMI 2.0 machine but I could not find
out how I could do that in the docs. I tried running the cmd ....
hpi_shell -c /etc/openhpi/openhpi.conf (and specifying the IP address
and port num (4743) of the IPMI 2.0 machine in the ipmidirect handler of
the /etc/openhpi/openhpi.conf file) but that did not work.

Just for kicks, try running the client as a non-root user and let me know.
