If you are using a released tar file, you do not need to run bootstrap, just "./configure". "bootstrap" does not produce an "openhpi.spec" file. It is produced by the "configure" script. Which version of autoconf and automake are you using? This process has been working fine for a large number of people. Perhaps the problem is that you are using a very old version of source code, which is not compatible with your version of the autotools. Are you getting the same problem with a more recent version of OpenHPI? Please check the dependencies in the README file if you are having trouble with a new version.
