I don't know about recent Red Hat or SuSE systems.  Someone else may be
able to answer more directly for those.

On my Debian system, given a working OpenHPI install, I was able to:
  apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev
and then hpiview could be configured and compiled.  Debian's package
management system took care of the rest of the dependencies.

Having said all that, let me warn you that hpiview has had no
maintenance for years.  When I ran the copy I just compiled, it
segfaulted pretty quickly.  If you're interested in it, please consider
bringing it up to date and submitting patches.

I do know that about 1.5 years ago, it was functional, so there may be
just a few things wrong with it right now.
