Not to be too much of a stickler but I believe we're referring to a specific use case/need for 'salutation' not to be confused with sex, which is not to be confused with gender :-) (although maybe an RP wants all 3!)
I propose that it remain out-of-scope for OpenID whether RP's want to have gender or sex.
. . . seeing another interpretation of that last, I would further add that, if a RP wants to have sex with *any* (human) user, there are far deeper problems than OpenID will solve.
