You are absolutely correct.  In the beginning of the internet, without
WWW, there were ftp servers and mailing lists.  Usually one list for
one topic.  Now, you have to sift through tons and tons of rubble to
find that one nugget.

The upside is that now there are many many more people interested in and
knowledgeable on any given topic -- so the likelyhood to find at least
*something* is much higher. :-)
