Folks,

I have become aware of a fork in the OpenIPMI driver development stream.

Besides the ongoing Linux 2.6 and 2.4 drivers shepherded by Corey Minyard, HP
has a private version with some useful enhancements including stability fixes
and support for fully interrupt-driven PCI BMC cards, and for IPMI 2.0 OEM
Channels & OEM Messages.

HP apparently feel these changes are too big to be accepted by Corey & the
development community.

I hope this perception is wrong and their changes can in fact be reconciled
into the mainline OpenIPMI drivers.

HP, please offer your changes for Corey's examination;
  Corey, please consider them for inclusion.

My own need is for a Linux 2.4 version of a merged driver, and I know that's
unlikely even if a merge happens at the 2.6 level. I wish to speak in
support of any merging that might happen, whether or not a 2.4 merge happens.
(Yet I also greatly encourage the 2.4 merge ;-)

Thanks,

>Bela<
