>From my experience there are always people stuck on old systems with the weirdest configurations. One wouldn't expect them to use JavaFX 21 upwards, however they often need to combine their very-old-and-unsupported-for-years legacy stuff with some other lets-use-the-latest-and-greatest application that their devs just came up with.
I think the question is whether there is - or you would want to implement - a clear policy defining the minimum requirements for JavaFX version <x>. E.g. for Linux: Official distributions going back <n> years from a Java/JavaFX LTS release. With that in place it is relatively easy to answer these kinds of questions. It's also easier for developers to anticipate what's likely to get dropped from JavaFX and when. That said, I think we could use such a policy ourselves... ;-) Best regards, Greg Johan Vos <johan....@gluonhq.com> writes: > I think it is absolutely worth considering that. > I actually thought we already had an issue for discussing this, but I seem > to be unable to do search queries on JBS atm. > > I can't think about configurations that are stuck on GTK2 and that are > still relevant today, but it would be good to get input from others in case > such configurations are still in use. > > - Johan > > On Wed, Jan 4, 2023 at 12:30 PM Thiago Milczarek Sayão < > thiago.sa...@gmail.com> wrote: > >> >> Would a merge request to remove gtk2 support on the JavaFX 21 release be >> welcome? >> >> --Thiago. >> >> >> -- Gregor Schmid E: gregor.sch...@qfs.de T: +49 8171 38648-11 F: +49 8171 38648-16 Quality First Software GmbH | www.qfs.de Bürgermeister-Graf-Ring 10 | 82538 Geretsried | Germany GF Gregor Schmid, Karlheinz Kellerer HRB München 140833 The data protection information in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies to authorized representatives / authorized representatives of "legal persons" in accordance with Art. 12 ff.
