I'd then start with the basic tests, like after render everything
events, chekc to see, if there are js errors, if OpenLayers.js is loaded
at all, then maybe add an eventlistener to the map like "*addlayer*"
then see what happens when you add a layer. stuff like these

I found that only part of the features are being loaded into the layer,
then for some reason openlayers stops processing it...

(Or, maybe I should try to debug openlayers code... Any hint on how to
