Actually that works perfectly! I was unaware that I could use a layer that wasn't actually added to the map. I guess I will just define several layers I actually need to display info for and then use these with the GetFeature control exclusively. Thanks again!

I'm saying you could possibly create a Layer.WMS for use with the GFI control only. This Layer.WMS will include only the layers that you want queried. And you won't add this layer to the map.
