Hi, animated zooming is not that easy. There is currently no way to do it. But there are two ways you could implement it:
1) with CSS3 transforms. See OpenLayers.Control.PinchZoom for a similar use case where this is used. This will only work in modern CSS3 capable browsers. 2) after applying the patch for http://trac.osgeo.org/openlayers/ticket/3061 by changing the size of map.layerContainerDiv and applying an offset similar to the one calculated in the PinchZoom control.
