Once we get 500 mA, it should be safe to switch on LCM and backlight and display something nice, before going into standby. Similar for "charge complete". This lacks a the simple elegance of a LED, but it could be done without spilling too much blood ;-) (Disclaimer: I haven't actually measured how much excess current we have.
