Gak!  I get 10 for the value (from both AT&T and T-Mobile), also no
time/date.  I think that response is supposed to be the timezone, in
15-minute increments, offset from UTC.  But neither your nor my numbers
make sense, so I wonder if the Calypso is giving bad information or if
there is different algorithm for determining the timezone that it uses.

I think it is because I have the gsm in AT+CSCS="HEX" mode. That would mean 138 is the hex equivalent of "^a8" which if I take that first character as a "-" then it seems right -8GMT without DST.
