I'm not against it going in 1.6, but I'd rather keep the pressure on making 1.8 come out sooner than later, rather than keep having 1.6 be a "development" tree. 1.6 should be for low-impact things, IMHO, and even though it's meant to be config-compatible, this seems high-impact enough that I'd rather we keep focusing on getting things ready for a 1.8 release in 6 months than developing more stuff for 1.6 and having a 1.8 release in 9 months instead...
