Hi Seth,
in the /etc/init.d/opennms-remote-poller file I have
URI=http://10.1.1.220:8980/opennms-remoting
I didn't tried RMI or other protocols.
On the web gui of the server I see that the remote poller is checking in.
In the poller.log file of the server I can see the message "Poller: Active
service Telnet on 172.30.194.252 not configured for any package. Marking as Not
Polled." Although I have
<exclude-range begin="172.30.194.1" end="172.30.194.254"/>
In the example1 package definition and
   <filter>IPADDR IPLIKE *.*.*.*</filter>
   <include-range begin="172.30.194.1" end="172.30.194.254"/>
In the remote package definition.

Thanks!
Davo

Hi Davo,

Let me get more information about your situation. What type of remoting are you
using to connect to the main OpenNMS server? RMI, HTTP, or HTTPS? In other
words, what URI are you configuring for the remote poller system to connect to
the main OpenNMS system?

If you are willing to run code that is slightly more bleeding-edge, you may
also want to upgrade to the current unstable branch (1.13.0). The remote poller
code operates the same way in 1.13 but the error handling and logging has been
greatly improved since 1.12.

But the question should belong here: is the code for the remote poller feature
working in 1.12.3 release?? Because no matter what I do I can't make the
Opennms poll (ICMP and/or telnet) to a remote node via a remote Opennms poller.
I opened a bug NMS-6326<http://issues.opennms.org/browse/NMS-6326> but it's
gone ignored.
IRC, Wiki and other mailing list were helpful but I can't solve this riddle.
A bit of info:

- Both the Server and Remote poller see each other and are Ubuntu
12.04LTS server.

- The server try to poll directly the remote node, no traffic is sent
to the Remote Poller server.

- In webgui I see the remote node services as Not Monitored, no matter
what I write in poller config file.

I'm at loss and sadly remote polling is a must. If I can't make this work I
have to move to another monitoring solution even if I don't like do this.

Thanks everybody
Davo
