$ file libbfb.dll
libbfb.dll: PE32 executable for MS Windows (DLL) (console) Intel 80386 32-bit

According to 'file', the binary dll present in Eric's source is a win32 dll.
However, the build process requires libbfb.dll even on Linux, so I'm
assuming it wants an assembly.
