BTW: an xmlto installation does not take 400MB, no way. Can you show the list of dependencies? It may be that latex is set as dependency although that not strictly needed, not for our purpose, and fop would be the better choice. Only with a latex installation, it can be that big. I'd expect it not have more than 25MB.
