Yes it can be fixed. I raised a ticket in 2010 to fix this and I
actually tried myself to get it build under MinGW/MSys.

You can add your comment there.

Take note now that libusbx/libusb will be merged, maybe it will be
possible to make libusb-compat-0.1 to be similar to libusbx to
support multiple toolchain under Windows (MinGW GCC, MINGW-w64,
MSVC, WDK, Cygwin). So the work may be more than what you
think.

I am kind of OS neutral, using Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. I
also uses a little bit of FreeBSD/OpenBSD/NetBSD for libusb
and libusb related project testing purpose.
