This evening I tried this without the other changes and no luck. I believe
the reason is that it may have eliminated one of the set_configuration
calls, but the reset still caused a hang.

Xiaofan Chen's comments appear to be correct in that this change would only
address libusb1.0 also.

Possibly on windows this change would work in isolation because the reset
isn't called on that platform.

Do you use or have access to a LPC Link-2 with JLink firmware as well? I
have only access to Ubuntu Linux for the next week or so, but afterward I
can try on windows 7 with various combinations of backend.
