R729 works just fine, without srst_pulls_trst. If the target required 
srst_pulls_trst reset halt wouldn't work at all.

I had a brief look at the i.MX27 manual - are you sure it really requires 
srst_pulls_trst? To me it looks like only POR (power on reset) pulls TRST, but 
HRESET shouldn't affect TRST.

I haven't had time to work on this yesterday, maybe today gets better...
