Im proposing some changes from comments from different members, plus
questions. If you have any more changes proposal or general comments
let us know :
*Project structure :*
OpenPBX.org has run for over a year with a really free structure,
everyone contributed what they wish and it really work well so far. But
since our first release will occur soon, it will help bring alot of new
developers in our rank, and some of them are not as experience as other
and that might cause problem with the current structure.
Also we will have to become more structure and give responsibility to
different aspect of the development's and releases. Of course we need
to be understanding about the different avability from certain person,
and not to make management time higher than the development's time.
There were also talk to create an foundation for the project, it
something we should be really thinking about the pro and cons of doing
it. If someone has experience running or participating into one, it
would be great if you can share your experience with us.
*Project Name conflict :*
There has been alot of offline discussion about changing the name of
the project after our first releases. Even if I have got us a trademark
registry for US and Canada to secure openpbx.org, it seem some members
believe the name enter in conflict with another project and is affecting
our project future. I personally do not care about the name itself (...
but I still like it). I care more about us as a group and together
working to get an really great Open Source PBX platform. So public
discussion about changing the name is open now, there has been no named
really proposed so far. *Be careful* not to propose any name publicly
since some people with bad intention might try lock it out from us..
If we after these public discussion find that we have to find a new name
for our project, we can make a team that will work on it, and at that
point create a private official channel for everyone to propose their
suggestions to that team.
*SubVersion proposal*
* Remove all unsecure svn commit access to opbx subversion.
* All commit access account require a SVN+SSH account setup and/or
setup an https:// svn setup ( I think svn+ssh is more secure) ?
* An active member (or more) will be voted to be given access to
manage the svn accounts creation and modifications.
* Upgrade the subversion system to 1.4 to allow mirroring.
*Trac issues*
* Someone should be assign and given all the rights to trac system
(If interested, let us know what you would implement)
* How should account be manages, linking to openpbx.org
user/password registration ?
There is more to talk about and please share your concern. Something
they might be really simple thing to fix and can make your life and
other alot easier.
Some people said I am hard to reach, so here is the different escalation
levels to reach me :
IRC:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (I do not get any notify)
EMAIL:mochouinard @T openpbx.org
MSN:mochouinard @T hotmail.com (Im switching computer offen, so while I
move to switch, I'll lose your messages)
TELEPHONE : +1-514-907-9977 (10:00 to 22:00 Eastern, for EMERGENCY you
can call me anytime)
English and French only ;)
Now with a new structure, different person will be in charge of
different aspect of the project. But in the mean time if you are unsure
where to send your problems with the project let me know. If you are
interesting in taking the lead on different aspect of the project
(svn,trac,web,doc,release,moderator....) reply to this thread and
explain what is your views and goals.
I wrote all this fairly quickly, since I am tired... so I apologized
like usual for my spelling, format...
