I think that this thread has taken the wrong direction. GIT/SVN/CVS is not the main subject in this thread, imho.
There are more important proposals here to discuss and no one has yet commented them. Marc Olivier Chouinard wrote: > Im proposing some changes from comments from different members, plus > questions. I agree on this. We should start structuring a bit in the hope that new developers will jump onboard. And we have to 1) give responsability to some persons for some part of te code 2) make sure that those people do what they has taken care off in a reasonable amount of time. > Also we will have to become more structure and give responsibility to > different aspect of the development's and releases. The time a person spend on the project cannot be fixed. If someone takes the decision to write something, he should also give a deadline for the work. We cannot impose no one to work on the code, of course, but we must be sure that the people who have offered their avalaibility do that. > There were also talk to create an foundation for the project, it > something we should be really thinking about the pro and cons of doing > it. I have not much experience about this so i cannot really be propositive. > *Project Name conflict :* > There has been alot of offline discussion about changing the name of > the project after our first releases. I agree about the name change. The only opinion i have against it is that we should focus on the release first, and then on the name change. IMHO we could change name even before a release. That would imply, of course, the rewrite of most (if not all) of the docs and is not a small work. So we could also postpone the release and work on the name change. At the moment i think there are not enough resources to do both things at the same time. Unless, of course, someone has more resources to give. > If we after these public discussion find that we have to find a new name > for our project, we can make a team that will work on it, and at that > point create a private official channel for everyone to propose their > suggestions to that team. ok > *SubVersion proposal* > > * Remove all unsecure svn commit access to opbx subversion. > * All commit access account require a SVN+SSH account setup and/or > setup an https:// svn setup ( I think svn+ssh is more secure) ? > * An active member (or more) will be voted to be given access to > manage the svn accounts creation and modifications. > * Upgrade the subversion system to 1.4 to allow mirroring. as i said, everything suites me well. > Now with a new structure, different person will be in charge of > different aspect of the project. So as soon as we have a list of people who can contribute, we could share the tasks accorting to their knowledge. It's funny that those people i have heard complaining have not replied yet. This is the right moment to talk and propose. Without public discussion we cannot grow.
