In the hope that this may be read by Steve Underwood.

Steve

I have been using app_rxfax/app_txfax with spandsp 0.0.2 and Asterisk
1.2 quite happily for some time.
I am now trying to use app_rxfax/app_txfax with spandsp 0.0.3 and
Asterisk-1.4.0-beta3 with the same
hardware as before but with much less success.

I now realise that I don't even know if this is supposed to work.
Is this an environment that should all fit together?

I have located the Asterisk 1.4 versions of app_rxtax and app_txfax.
I have work out how to manually apply the patch file to beta3.
After some head scratching I realised that to apply the effects of this
patch
I had to run autoconf to generate a new configure script that was aware
of
spandsp. And that I needed autoconf 2.60 for Asterisk 1.4 beta3 (which I
downloaded and compiled ok). After so more trial and error runs, I
finally
realised that the make for Asterisk 1.4 beta3 was not using the spandsp
and libtiff libraries on the gcc for app_rxtax and app_txfax. This was
because
the "make menuselect" invoked scripts didn't generate any dependency
information
for the apps as they did not contain "/*** MODULEINFO...." comments,
which I
added. I can now compile ok but Asterisk suffers segmentation faults
while
running app_rxfax (sometimes at the start, sometimes part way thru and
other
times after it exits).

I have searched all over but I cannot find anything that now suggests
this is
even supposed to work. Have you any comments?

Many thanks.
