Looks like you figured out the key issue - that pixels are not square in 
a FAX. Now you need to use a viewer that works properly. Many do not 
take any notice of the asymmetric resolution of a FAX, and display it 
squashed.


You know, there is a reason why FAQs exist. It generally saves you a lot 
of time if you scan through the available material.
